Q: When and how did Tungjaichern begin?
Lisa: It all started about 13 years ago when I was finishing my degree in Fine Arts. At the time, I struggled to find a job because most companies sought candidates with digital design skills, whereas my strength lay in hand-drawn artistry. Feeling lost, I began searching for a way to generate income on my own.

Q: What inspired you to pursue this craft?
Lisa: My mother played a significant role. She was worried about me commuting for job interviews, especially since I had a tendency to be clumsyoften tripping or misplacing things. She encouraged me to work from home and continue my passion for art. Coincidentally, a relative was getting married and asked me to handwrite guest names on invitation envelopes. Thats when I realized there was a market for this skill. I immediately launched my Facebook page, Tungjaichern, and started offering personalized calligraphy services.

Q: How was it starting a business from scratch?
Lisa: I had little capitaljust my skills and social media. I started by charging only 3 baht per name. Writing 100 names earned me 300 baht. Gradually, word-of-mouth spread, and the demand grew. What began as wedding invitation calligraphy soon expanded to event invitations, especially those requiring elegant English lettering, which pushed me to refine my skills further.

Ultimately, I realized that my greatest fulfillment comes from helping clients bring their visions to life. Once I embraced this, I let go of the word exhaustion and dedicated myself fully to this craft.

Q: What keeps you motivated in this journey?
Lisa: I believe in the power of handwritten namesits as if theres a spiritual connection to the past. (Laughs) But beyond that, my faith plays a significant role. Lord Ganesha has been a guiding force in my journey, always steering me back to this path whenever Ive tried to leave.

Q: How do you define yourself as a calligrapher?
Lisa: I consider myself a craftswoman. Its not an inborn talent but a skill honed through dedication and practice. Many clients ask where I studied calligraphy, but the truth is, anyone can master it with enough passion and perseverance.
